Hello Ant and welcome to my on-line training site. Yes, all the drills and exercises you see here will help increase your flexibility, strength and balance. When you do this consistently those habits that are not good for you (smoking, laziness) will begin to fade away and you will become fit and well!

Happy Training,

Thank you Sohail,

I am glad to hear that you have improved your skills and confidence and it so nice to get the feedback from one of my students. Most of the emails I get are from people expecting everything for free and wanting to become instant Kung Fu Masters like we are lead to believe from the movies, and media. It is good to know that people like you appreciate what I do in the world and that is the only reason I continue to do this.

You have made my day!

Best regards,

Sifu Tony

Hello Sohail,

I will answer your questions in the order in which you asked them.

1) I would always start with the warmups first as they get your body ready and the movements in the warmups are the same movements you will need as your fundamental fighting skills. These warmups teach you the correct way to step, move and block as well as work on your leg strength and balance. I would spend about 20 to 30 minutes on these.

Next I would practice striking and kicking by going into the those sections and working on each strike and kick one at a time until you feel comfortable with each of them. This should be done about 20 - 30 minutes each time you work out as well. I would also spend time looking at the basic lessons to see how the strikes and kicks go together but most of your time should be spent on becoming fundamentally sound with your movements before spending a lot of time on the lessons.

This will change once you learn all the strikes and kicks correctly and you will then spend the last 30 minutes of your training learning the lessons. If you do not have a partner you can begin to learn the lessons by what we call "shadow boxing". All this means is that as you watch the lessons you will move along with them, visualizing that you have a partner as you do the blocks, kick and strikes.

For extra credit spend a little time learning the school hand form as this will give you a good sense of how your body should flow.

2) You can move into the next level anytime you want because the lower level will always be available to you to look back on but I have put enough instruction into the basic level to take the average person about 90 days to learn that level.

Hi Tony,

I have been looking at the Level 1 videos since the last few days and have been practising these. I got a few questions in my mind which i am listing down here.

1. If i practise for an hour every day how should the session be structured. Should it be same every day. do i need to practise more than an hour to be good at Kung Fu.
2. Might be too early for this question as i am a begginer but would like to ask, For how long should i practise the basic level before moving on to the next one

Thanks in advance.

Having a partner is not so big of an issue when you are just starting out. It will eventually effect you when you are trying to learn the actual lessons because you will need to feel the weight and balance of another body to learn correctly. For now if you stick to learning the basic drills and the school handform they will help you with the initial coordination and balance you will need to learn when you get to the lessons.

Thanks for your reply. I had another question. I read on your site the importance of having a partner. However i have just moved to this new place for job away from home and as of now living alone. Having a partner to practice might not be an option for me for some time. Is there anything i can do to make up for practicing without a partner.

Hello Sohail, these are great questions! It is good to warm up the body before going full speed. I would recommend learning and practicing the warm up drills first at: http://kungfutrainingsecrets.com/wordpress-members/?p=313 as this will allow your body the warm up it needs as well as training your body in the movements it will need to learn for self defense.

The exercises for balance will improve the strength of the joints because they help your body with all the little assist muscles necessary to keep your joints and pivot points strong and flexible.
